Royal British Columbia Museum Collections Policies

The Royal British Columbia Museum (RBCM) contains detailed information on all of the province's natural and human history. It includes a collection of over 10 million objects and specimens and millions of significant government documents and records; substantial photographic, audio and video collections; artworks; and an extensive library of publications.

The primary purpose of the Museum: To secure, receive and preserve specimens, artifacts and archival and other materials that illustrate the natural or human history of British Columbia - is governed by policies clearly outlining the stewardship of these collections. They are presented here for those wishing to understand these policies in detail.

The RBCM subscribes to all national and international standards of conservation as set down by the British Columbia Museums Association, the Canadian Museums Association and the International Council of Museums.
